Live Embers

Several days ago I went on line and found the WEB page for Georgetown Baptist Church. I was quite surprised at the information given but the one thing I did not find was one word about the senior adults of the church and the work that was being done with them. I mentioned this to Richard and he said "do you want to write something"? Well, that certainly put the ball back in my court, didn't it? I responded that I would think about it. What would I write about - (about a dozen lines Mom, my children said), so here goes.
Live Embers was organized on July 31, 1996. Our average attendance in the beginning was 30-35, but as is the case with most senior adult work, as the years have passed, we are not as hale and hearty as we once were, and several of our number have "gone on to glory". We meet on the 4th Monday of each month and now our lunches are pot-luck. In the beginning, we had Mildred Clark to cook for us and what excellent meals she provided while staying within our budget. The best part was - no-one had to pay - it was free. Many times we have gone to such places as Claudia Sanders Dinner House in Shelbyville for lunch, or to Shakertown for breakfast. We also traveled to Natural Bridge State Park recently for lunch. In October we have a limited number of reservations in Gatlinburg for a Phil Waltrip conference which will last 4 days and feature such personalities as David Jeremiah and the Gatlin Brothers.

By the way, if you are 55+ you are considered a "senior adult" like it or not. If you are free on the 4th Monday each month, and have nothing else to do, why not join us for lunch, we really are a "fun bunch".
